为什么古人给后代‘只传玉不传金’

黄金自古就有货币属性，说白了就是钱，没有任何文化内涵。因而，古代的文人雅士达官显贵都崇尚：“钱财乃身外之物”，且“视钱财如粪土”，所以黄金虽然是硬通货，但是在上层社会的主流观念中黄金是被看轻的。而且给后人留下黄金，很容易让后代沉浸在纸醉金迷之中，反而毁了自己的后代。

玉和黄金又显然不同，它是有灵魂有信仰的，蕴含了丰富的精神内涵和文化底蕴，所以传玉不仅仅只是传递财富，也是传递一个家族的信仰。祖辈把玉石传给后代，并不是让后代锦衣玉食，而是传递一种观念、一种文化、一种精神、一种气节，与贫富无关。不论贫穷或是富有，发达还是落魄，都不要忘记做一个像是玉石一样的人，有品德有修养，洁身自好，正直善良。

同时，玉由于具有稀缺性和唯一性，其价值始终是向上的，也是财富的浓缩形式和保值方式，一块好玉会随着时间的推移逐渐变高。所以在传承了精神内涵的同时，也非常含蓄地将财富传递给了后代子孙。

所以传玉是传承、传玉是传福，护佑晚生后代福源绵长。
